MaineDOT to Temporarily Close Seawall Road in Southwest Harbor
Drivers should plan to use the detour.
SOUTHWEST HARBOR – September 30, 2026 — Starting October 5, the Maine Department of Transportation (MaineDOT) will temporarily close Seawall Road (Route 102A) for up to 28 days in Southwest Harbor for a highway rehabilitation project to make the roadway more resilient to future storm events.
The project location is on Route 102A and begins 0.07 of a mile south of Beaver Lodge Lane and extends south 0.42 of a mile.
The project work includes installing new gabion baskets along the area of roadway closest to the oceanfront and a new reinforced concrete culvert. Fish passage, specifically eels, is considered with this project.
Work is expected to be completed by October 30.
Message boards are in place advising of the upcoming closure.
Motorists should follow the detour map provided and posted detour signs.
The contractor for this project is R F Jordan & Sons Construction, Inc. of Ellsworth, Maine.
The contract amount is $915,820.00. Funding for this project is through the U.S. National Park Service (NPS) and the U.S. Department of Interior (DOI).
